How to size a ratchet cable cutter by mm²

Map soft Cu/Al cable cross-section to a 240, 400, or 500 mm² class — or accept NO_MATCH above 500.

Start from mm², not handle length alone

Ratchet cutters are sold by published maximum copper/aluminum cross-section. Handle length helps leverage but does not replace the mm² ceiling. This site maps mm² to three verified VEVOR US classes.

The ladder on this screen

Class 240 covers up to 240 mm². Class 400 covers up to 400 mm². Class 500 covers up to 500 mm² (about 1000 MCM aluminum on the linked listing). Example: 120 → 240; 300 → 400; 450 → 500; 600 → NO_MATCH.

Soft copper and aluminum only

These consumer ratchets are not for steel wire, ACSR, armored cable, or finely stranded welding cable. Copper capacity on a listing can be lower than aluminum — confirm the live page.

Jaws, PPE, and de-energize

Keep fingers clear of the ratchet mechanism. Wear PPE. Cut only de-energized conductors. Ratings are manufacturer claims — verify the live listing. Affiliate tracking is pending.
